Award Winning And Beloved Historic Pub In The Heart Of Witney

A classical British pub and restaurant with a quirky twist, in a picturesque market town.

Situated in Witney, a town as famous for its historic farmers market and blanket industry as for the hills and towns of the Cotswolds just a stone's throw away. Recently named the UK Licensees of the Year 2025 by the British Institute of Innkeepers. Everything we do is based around the customer experience, value for money, being a community hub and having fun. That's what a pub is about isn't it?

Opening Times

Open seven days a week for drinks from midday and 6 days a week (Tuesday - Sunday) for lunch and dinner. Please note, our kitchen is closed on Mondays to give our wonderful chefs some time off!

We did it!!!

Tuesday 17th June 2025 will always be one of the most surreal, yet proudest days of our lives. In January, unbeknown to us, we were nominated for the BII Licensees Of The Year by our BDM at Admiral Taverns Dave Stallard. Firstly, it was an absolute honour to even be nominated, then to go through the various rounds of applications, mystery shoppers and judging etc, to then be named finalists alongside some absolute legends and trailblazers was truly the biggest honour ever. To have been named the winners, is just on another level. We want to thank our inspirational team, our amazing customers!! Janice & Amanda at The Border Terrier, Harry & Geoff of Chaplin's & The Cellar Bar, Mark & Anton from The Cott Inn, Mickey at The Swan in Clewer & Jon of The Wykeham Arms, Winchester, it was a pleasure to get to know you a little. You’re all utterly incredible and making a major difference to your communities and the wider world of hospitality. We were blown away by you all.

Also, a huge thanks to Admiral Taverns for nominating us and your ongoing phenomenal support.

Thanks, loads to Sky for being the most amazing hosts.

Not sure how we put into words what to say about the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII). This has been the most incredible process ever from start to finish. We have learnt so much about our business.

Although the semi-final and Monday’s finals judging was intense and at points incredibly nerve wracking, it was a process we loved and wouldn’t change a thing. Your team, your judges and absolutely everything you did was incredible and for that we are so incredibly grateful. To ultimately name us as the winners amongst such incredible competition quite honestly means more to us than anyone will ever know.

To be named Licensees of the year 2025 by the BII, isn’t just about the trophy or the title. The charity events, fundraising, working closely with the local food bank, the way we run our little pub and everything that makes ‘The Shoes’ is something we always aimed to set out to do from day one.

To have the recognition from the governing body of pubs that we’re doing something right and turning our dream of a true community hub into a reality is our biggest accomplishment. This is only the start and we’ll keep pushing! Witney is an amazing town, full of cools pubs and restaurants.

Our wonderful industry needs help at the moment, so if we can make a difference over the next 12 months to benefit our community and further afield, then that will make us very proud. We will pour every bit of passion and energy we have into what we do, fighting to make things right in the hospitality world and we will do everything in our power to ensure pubs in our amazing community and wherever else continue to thrive, grow and remain one of the most important industries in this country. The powers that be need to remember this quickly and help out a trade that is literally at the very heart of this country’s constitution, ‘The Great British Pub’!! To remain this way and something so important to our way of life, it needs help to remain at the top of the tree.

We may have been the two up on stage, but without our amazing partners Amanda and Hannah, our super cool team and absolutely wonderful customers, it wouldn’t have ever happened. For that we are eternally grateful.

Much love Mike & Tommyxx
